Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) is pleased to announce an extension of its service through the opening of the Kuching Community Social Support Centre (CSSC), a collaborative venture between the State Government’s Social Development Council and NGOS.

Thanks to the innovative CSSC project, women experiencing domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual violence or other violations of rights can now meet with our social worker/counsellor in the centre of town. 

Since 1985, SWWS has been addressing these issues and quickly established the first crisis phone line in the State. During the pandemic this was rebranded as WINNE (Women-in-Need Need Empowerment) and accepts calls, emails, texts and now face to face meetings at the CSSC or at our headquarters at Level 4, La Promenade Mall, which is on the way to Kota Samarahan.

SWWS has been allocated space at CSSC to offer para-counselling and para-legal consultations in their WINNE’s Place pod three times a week, being:

Mondays and Fridays:  10am -3pm  and Wednesdays: 10am-1pm.

Women are welcome to drop-by or make an appointment to discuss the situation distressing them and consider their options. For those needing shelter SWWS will advise on what is available in Kuching area and how to obtain protection orders.

In addition to these personalized, confidential services, SWWS will be hosting fortnightly events at the CSSC to raise awareness on the exploitation and abuse of women and children as well as advancing the position of women in society.

Through such activities SWWS is working to eliminate discrimination in our society and hopes to achieve gender equality, one of the Sustainable Development Goals the UN is asking countries to meet by 2030.
